Show You Care – Week #11

WELCOME!  I am so glad you are here.  Every Wednesday I will be sharing (1) tip to help inspire you to lead a simpler life.  It won’t be anything hard or something I haven’t tried myself.  Living a simple life is a conscious choice made up of small steps every day.  So here is our small step for today.

Week #11 – Show You Care

In this age of digital communication it is easy to lose touch with the personal side of relationship.  Sure, we can look through Facebook, like a post, leave a comment or send a message..but there is something to be said for showing up in real life to those we love and value.

I like social media just as much as the next person.  I admit that it’s easier to keep up with people’s lives, but it’s also just as easy to lose actual relationship with them if all we do is troll on Facebook and not make an actual connection.

I have a graphic I post now and then on the Simplified Life Facebook Page – It says “Love is great when spoken, but Greatest when shown.”  Every time I post it, the message seems to resonates with people because they comment, like and share it over and over.  Every person desires to be loved, and we understand that love best when it is shown.

So today’s simple tip is “SHOW you care.” Instead of just commenting on Facebook to a friend, pick up the phone and share your congratulations.  Is someone in need?  Instead of saying “Call me if you need me,” pick up the phone and ask them specifically what you can do for them.

Take a friend out for coffee or lunch.  Offer to watch your friends kids so she can go out with her husband or to the grocery store on her own (If you’re a mom of littles ( or were a mom of littles) you realize how wonderful a trip to the store by yourself can be.

There are so many ways to show we care.  What ways do you SHOW love and care to the people in your life?

Keeping it Simple,
~Victoria

Great post on something we all forget to do in this digital world. I like to take people out for coffee/tea, send a real note in the mail, or (even though I’m not a phone person) make a surprise call now and again. I like to bring a coffee to the door or leave something helpful or that reminds me of someone in their mailbox (if they’re not home). Thought-provoking post!

It’s so easy to fall in the the trap of communicating via electronically. Thanks for reminding me I need to be there in person for my friends also.

My friends really appreciate my homemade cards. It takes just a little time, but leaves them with a heartprint that will last forever. Thanks for the reminder to slow down, and do for others.

This is so true. I met with a young college student that I am mentoring and as she was talking, I thought about how much better this was than our communication by text, etc. Beautiful post.

Doing a little blog-trekking (trying to visit a blog from every state) and I had the pleasure of coming across yours. Enjoyed the post – I think a lot of us tend to have a love/hate relationship with social media. I have purposely tried NOT to embrace social media as much as others and people always seem to think I’m a little crazy for not being “plugged in” to everything at all times!
