Take 15 Minutes

WELCOME!  I am so glad you are here.  Every Wednesday I will be sharing (1) tip to inspire you in leading a simpler life.  It won’t be anything hard or something I haven’t tried myself.  Living a simple life is a conscious choice made up of small steps every day.  So here is our small step for today.

Week #18 – Take 15 Minutes

Remember. Small Steps.  When I first started simplifying our home it was hard to know where to start.  I already knew the areas that needed immediate attention, but, as a whole, it was overwhelming.  So I picked one spot. One place to start and I committed to working on it for at least 15 minutes each day.  While the process could be slow at times, over the course of a few weeks it made a huge difference.  The cool part? Each time I finished an area – no matter how small – it fueled me for tackling the next spot.  So pick one. Just one. And get started.  Maybe it’s the junk drawer; maybe it’s your laundry room or your coat closet.  The point is to start. You can do this! I know you can!

This week I picked my office as a good place to start.  We have been wanting to go paperless for a long time but so often the piles of paper have felt overwhelming.  Oftentimes I just maintain where I’m at instead of taking that bold step to go a little bit further.  I started by sorting the piles and breaking them down into simpler chunks to deal with.  Along the way I eliminated the junk mail and items that no longer needed my attention.  It felt so good to see them go into my shredder.

While I still have some paperwork to tackle, the piles are not quite so daunting as before.  The next step is to scan in documents and file the papers that we need to hold onto for tax purposes or legal reasons.  While simplifying can be a lot of work, the results and benefits are worth it.

So, what is one area you can start working on today?  Pick one and then share it with me in the comments below.

Let’s encourage one another to simplicity.

Keeping it Simple,

agreed. worked on my closet for about fifteen minutes this morning and produced a large trash bag of clothes that don’t fit or i will never wear. I’m heading out the door soon to give them to our local goodwill.

That is so true. It really does give more motivation when you see your achievements.

Like you, I have been working towards getting rid of the paper clutter with a paperless system. It is amazing how much paper you accumulate – and so much can be filed away electronically now.
